Privacy Policy

Didi — Remember Less. Live More.

Didi ("we", "our", or "us") is a household memory app — a shared record of what was done, who did it, and when, for the people in your household. This policy describes what the Didi app and this website actually collect, why, and how you can control it. Didi is intended for use by people 13 and older.

Account information

Didi uses Firebase Authentication to create and sign you into your account. When you create an account, we collect your first name, last name, and email address, and — if you choose to add it — your birthday. You can sign up with an email and password, or by signing in with Google or Apple, in which case we receive the basic profile information (name, email) those providers share with us. We never see or store your password itself — Firebase Authentication handles that.

Household and Memory data

The core of Didi is the data you and the people you invite create together, stored in Google Firestore: household names and members, the "Memories" (tasks/reminders) you track — their title, category, icon, and any schedule or reminder you set — and the completion history showing who did what and when. This data is private to your household: our database rules restrict access at the server level to only the members you've explicitly invited (by code or link) — not just hidden in the app's interface. We do not sell or share the contents of your household memories, notes, photos, tasks, or other household content with third parties for advertising. Voice, photos, and where processing happens

Didi can capture what you say, and can read text from photos you attach. Reading text from a photo happens entirely on your device. Dictation uses your device's own speech recognition, which is not always on-device — the paragraph below says exactly what that means.

Voice. The microphone is used only while you are actively dictating a capture, and only after you grant permission. Didi never records or stores audio, and never sends audio to Didi's servers. The transcription is done by the speech recognition built into your phone — Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android — the same one your keyboard's dictation key uses. Depending on your device, your language, and your own system settings, that recognition may run on the device or may send the audio to Apple or Google to be transcribed, under their privacy policies rather than this one. Didi receives only the resulting text, and only that text is saved, in the same household data described above. If you would rather no audio ever leave your phone, type instead of dictating: denying the microphone permission disables that one button and nothing else.

Photos and text recognition. When you attach a photo to a Memory or to a "where is it" entry, your device reads any text visible in it, so you can search for it later — a model number on an appliance sticker, a date on a warranty. This uses Apple's Vision framework on iOS and Google's ML Kit on Android, both of which run on the device itself. The photo and the recognised text are stored in your household under the same access rules as everything else, visible only to members you have invited. Neither the photo nor its text is sent anywhere for analysis.

Recognised text is stored so it can be searched; it is never presented as a verified fact, and never automatically becomes the name or the notes of anything. Didi does not use your voice, your photos, or your household content to train any model, and never uses them for advertising.

App Lock

If you turn on App Lock (Settings → Privacy), Didi asks for your device's biometrics or passcode before showing your household data, and covers the app whenever it goes into the background. That check is performed entirely by your device: Didi never receives, sees, or stores your fingerprint, face data, or passcode. If your device has no screen lock configured, App Lock cannot protect anything and Didi will not hold you out of your own data.

Reminders and notifications

Reminders you set for a Memory are scheduled directly on your own device (via your device's own notification system) and stay there even if you're offline or the app is closed. Didi does not currently send you push notifications from a server.

Subscriptions and payments

Didi Premium subscriptions are purchased and billed through Google Play Billing (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS). We use RevenueCat as our subscription-management provider to keep your subscription status in sync across devices. We never see or store your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Google or Apple, and RevenueCat only receives the subscription/purchase events needed to grant you access to Premium features.

Advertising and Google AdMob

Didi's free version may display banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob.

We do not sell or share the contents of your household memories, notes, photos, tasks, or other household content with advertisers for advertising purposes.

However, when ads are enabled, Google Mobile Ads may process limited technical and usage information in order to provide, measure, secure, and improve advertising. Depending on your device, region, consent choices, and applicable law, this may include:

In regions where consent is required, including the EEA, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Didi uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request and manage advertising consent before any ad is requested. You may choose to consent, refuse consent, or manage your privacy choices through that consent interface where it applies.

Premium subscribers do not receive ads. For a Premium account Didi's advertising code is never initialized at all — no ad is requested and no consent form is shown.

Google's processing of advertising data is also subject to Google's own privacy and advertising policies — see Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Diagnostics and analytics

Released versions of the Didi app use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to help us find and fix crashes and understand basic, aggregate app usage (e.g., which screens are used). Our code is written to never log the content of your Memories, your invite codes, or other personal information as part of this data. These tools are not active while we're developing or testing the app — only in the version you actually install. This diagnostic data does not include the contents of your household memories, and we do not share that content with advertisers. Advertising data handled by Google AdMob in the free version is described separately in Advertising and Google AdMob above.

Data security

Didi is built on Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, and the Cloud Functions that power invitations and subscription updates). All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Access to your household's data is restricted at the database level — enforced by server-side security rules, not just app-side checks — to people you've explicitly invited into that household.

Your rights and account deletion

You can review and update your profile at any time from within the app. You can permanently delete your account from Profile → Privacy & Security → Delete My Account. If you currently own a household, you'll need to transfer ownership or delete that household first, so the people in it aren't left without an owner — deleting your account otherwise removes your membership from every household you belong to and your account itself.

This website's waitlist

If you join the waitlist on this website before Didi is available to download, we collect the email address, optional first name, and consent you submit, only to notify you when Didi is ready and send occasional product updates you've agreed to receive. You can ask to be removed from the waitlist at any time.
